Everything you need to know about pickleball and using the EUPickleball platform

About Pickleball

What is Pickleball?

Pickleball is a paddle sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and table tennis. It's played on a court about one-third the size of a tennis court, with a modified tennis net, and using a plastic ball with holes and solid paddles.

Why is it called Pickleball?

There are two stories about how the game got its name. According to one account, the game was named after the inventor's dog, Pickles. The other story suggests the name came from the term 'pickle boat' in rowing, where oarsmen are chosen from the leftovers of other boats.

How do you play Pickleball?

Pickleball is played as singles or doubles on a badminton-sized court. The ball is served diagonally, and points can only be scored by the side that serves. Players must let the ball bounce once on each side before volleys are allowed, and there is a seven-foot no-volley zone on each side of the net to prevent 'smashing' from the net.

What equipment do I need?

To play pickleball, you need a pickleball paddle (similar to an oversized ping-pong paddle), a plastic ball with holes (similar to a wiffle ball), a court with a net, and comfortable athletic shoes and clothing.
